Yesterday I spent the day photographing in Shimba Hills National Reserve, based a bit inland from the south coast of Kenya.
This is a park I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting before, and based upon what I’ve heard from others I wasn’t expecting too much wildlife wise.
The park surprised me in a positive way though, as it didn’t take long before we had seen both Masai Giraffes, Cape Buffalos and Sable antelopes.
Later in the day we also had good sightings of elephants.
Shimba Hills is the only place in Kenya where the Sable antelope can be seen, and the reserve also holds substantial numbers of African elephants.
The elephants that are found there are of the African Forest Elephant subspecies, different from the more well known African Bush Elephant.
